Features:

Content Access Control - The cc_Portal software provides for extensive authentication and authorization that can be used to control access to information served by the portal. It may be set up to allow content to be served to the general public, or to targeted users. Authentication is based on the user’s entry of a User Name and Password. Authorization to access content may be assigned to non-authenticated users, any authenticated user, a member of one or more defined groups of users, or to one or more specific individuals.

Administration Control - Access to administrative features may be unrestricted, enabled only for members of one or more groups or enabled only for one or more individuals. Administrative functions are segregated into Owner, Administrator, Webmaster and Module Administrator functions.

o      Owner functions include the top-level authority such as defining Administrator / Webmaster permissions, overall authentication requirements and which of the primary modules may be used. Owner permission is set up at the initial installation / configuration and can only be changed by the defined owner.

o      Administrator functions are those that require authority but not particular technical expertise. This includes defining who will be allowed module administration privileges.

o      Webmaster functions are those that require technical knowledge of the server platform and the architecture. Although a person of authority should carry out these functions, they are isolated for Webmaster access to identify the need for technical expertise.

o      Module Administrator functions are those that control the operation of each of the modules (see Portal Modules).

All content and configuration areas employ data locking so that multiple administrators / contributors can perform updates without fear of stepping on each other's work.

Unified Presentation Control – The software puts presentation controls (colors, font face and size, logo and background images) in a single location and saves them as presentation packages. Change a color or font face in a package and it will be changed throughout the site. Select another presentation package for a sub-portal and all of the features will be set at once.

Template Based Content – The software comes with default page layouts for content presentation that is defined in HTML templates. These can be modified to suite the to suite the audience. This means that any HTML editor may be used to develop presentation pages that are served. The presentation pages can be static or may include dynamic output from the portal database by inclusion of simple key word identifiers.

Sub-portals – The software enables not only the creation of the primary, but also the creation of sub-portals. When licensed for a community portal, an option in the license allows the licensee to provide services for itself as well as other affiliated organizations within the community; i.e., the chamber of commerce, industrial foundation, charitable foundation, garden club, history club, historical preservation society, Lions and Rotary clubs, churches, museums, theater groups as well as city and county governments.

Banner Rotation – The software provides a banner rotation service. This enables the administrators to publicize community events and activities to users that would not normally seek out the information. It also provides a vehicle that can be used to generate revenue to the organization by advertising the goods and services of local business and professional groups. Logs of banner displays and clicks are maintained so that you can automate billing for banners ads.

Extensive Help – All administrative dialogs provide information on the use of the fields entered and, where appropriate, the overall use of the data entered into the dialog. This information is shown in a window that pops up upon clicking the help icon. The help window may be left visible while entering information in the dialog.

Inappropriate Content Protection – The software provides a space where inappropriate words may be entered. When material is posted that contains words found in this list, the entire posting is ignored unless sent by the allowed user. The sender of content is generally saved with the content itself and people that manage to defeat such content restrictions can be identified and, if appropriate, barred from logging in. Since images cannot be examined for appropriate content, it is recommended that the uploading of images be restricted to responsible users.

Encrypted Content Delivery – With a Secure Socket Layer (SSL) certificate installed, you can select which of the content areas are to deliver content encrypted, thereby preventing unauthorized mining of data by network sniffers and other such nefarious devices. Serve up your encrypted log-on screen or your personal profile data and portal users can be confident of the security of your site.

Integrate Portal Data in Static Pages – The portal can be set up to stand alone and can also be used to generate dynamic content for inclusion in static pages as server side includes (SSI). Using this feature, you can avoid having your webmaster continually update your calendar of events, your bulletin board, your photo gallery or your shared documents and applications. Just enter the information yourself and have it displayed as part of normal web pages.
