Channel Consultants develops web based applications that let you
interact with your audience through the Internet. The static (unchanging
part) of the user interface for an application is a web site. The code
runs on the web server or on an application server that my be completely
separate from the web server.
Channel prefers to develop server- side code in Perl, the
de-facto standard language for server- side components. Perl is the
server-side language of choice because:
- Perl runs equally well on Unix, Linux or Windows operating
systems.
- Perl is a community supported language preventing any of the big
boys (Microsoft, Sun, IBM, HP, etc.) from hijacking the standard and
requiring changes for each supported platform.
- Perl provides all the hooks needed to interact with other server
based software.
Channel prefers to develop client- side code in JavaScript,
the de-facto standard language for client side components. JavaScript is
the client-side language of choice because:
- JavaScript is the only language supported on both of the major
browser platforms, Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator.
- JavaScript is restricted in its ability to make changes on the
client system, thereby providing the best security for the end-user.
- JavaScript provides all the hooks needed to control the
presentation based on criteria that may be unique for each user but
which are defined only on the client's computer.
For specific applications, Channel has also used server-side Java,
Java Beans and Enterprise Java Beans. For Intranet applications, where
the user community is under your control, Channel can also used Visual
Basic, VB Script and VBA to more fully interact with client side
software provided by Microsoft.
New applications development begins at $800 and use of a previously
built application can be even less. Initial consultation is free.
